Fun Earth Day Activities

Earth Day is just around the corner! April 22 to be exact! It is the perfect time to discuss what we can do to help save the earth and be better citizens in our communities. We talk about the importance of recycling, reducing our waste, and reusing things over and over. I always love celebrating Earth Day with my students by doing some Earth Day activities!

These earth day activities are engaging, interactive, and perfect for your first grade and kindergarten students! They include a unit plan, help integrate reading and writing, and are sure to be fun for your learners! Everything is laid out!

I love to integrate reading and writing any way possible with our science units! The way our curriculum fell, we did this unit at the beginning of the year in Kindergarten.  Sentence building is so good for them–even at this time of the year, though!

Cutting apart and assembling sentences is a great skill for early readers to practice! The more exposure to sentence structure they have, the better!

We did a lot of sorting and discussing items that we can recycle right in our classroom! We talked about the attributes that make items recyclable and how even when we think things CAN’T be recycled, they can sometimes!

Get your students actively engaged with this earth day sort! Kindergarten and first grade students can sort items that are recyclable and not recyclable! Perfect for an earth day activity!

We always love making a mini-reader! The kids work to color them and assemble them and then we read them all together.  The kids place them in their book boxes when they are done so that they can re-read them all the time during read-to-self time!

This book created just for early readers will help them learn all about earth day! This is the perfect earth day activity for kindergarten and even first grade students. At the end of our unit, we compiled everything we had learned about taking care of the earth and make earth savers as we wrote about how we could save the earth!
